The harmful culture of social media

April 20, 2025 00:00:00

In today's world, social media has become a powerful tool-not just for communication, but also for income generation. It now even acts as a moral compass for many and a mirror reflecting human desires. However, it becomes deeply harmful when a platform gains popularity by promoting nudity and sensationalism.

When a woman dances in a towel or nightgown and garners thousands of views and likes, while a talented poet or intellectual goes unnoticed, we must ask ourselves: what direction is our society is headed? Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are increasingly shaping public opinion, turning modesty and morality into commodities for online consumption.

Consider the viral videos with provocative titles such as "What I gave my brother-in-law today". These gain massive attention, while pressing social issues-education, reform, or industry-are largely ignored. The spotlight has shifted from poetry to physical exposure, and entertainment now often disguises itself as comedy rooted in vulgarity.

In this environment, adult women are often valued more for their appearance than their thoughts or creativity. Our social fabric is being unraveled, thread by thread, as decency is sacrificed for likes, shares, and monetization. This absurd chase for online fame is redefining success for the younger generation-not as something rooted in education, hard work, or honesty, but in popularity and shock value.

This raises a critical question: how can we build a healthy, thoughtful, and morally grounded generation if we continue down this path? Are we handing our children a legacy of superficiality and moral confusion?

It is time to take a stand. Preventing the spread of toxic and negative trends on social media is not just necessary-it is urgent. Parents, teachers, and influencers must step forward. We need to guide our youth back to the core values of education, culture, and ethics. These are the true foundations of a strong society-not nighties, likes, or viral videos.
