Time to get tough against troublemakers
December 01, 2024 00:00:00
Recent roadblocks caused by minor disputes have created chaos for commuters, affecting office workers, patients in need of urgent care, and travellers rushing to catch flights. Such disruptions paralyse daily life and cause significant suffering. While protests are a democratic right, blocking roads over trivial issues is irresponsible and unjustifiable. The CA has urged everyone to follow a common procedure for addressing demands without resorting to roadblocks, but this advice often goes unheeded.
The consequences can be severe: patients miss treatments, professionals lose work hours, and travellers face missed appointments and financial losses. The interim government must take a firm stance against this growing problem. Softer approaches have failed, encouraging those who use public roads to voice their petty grievances. Strict enforcement, quick removal of blockades, and penalties for violators are necessary to restore order. Public welfare must be prioritised, ensuring that roads remain free for movement, not chaos.
