Torment of verification getting govt job
January 09, 2025 00:00:00
The issue of police verification in the final stage of public service recruitment has again drawn public attention. Some 267 qualified candidates from the modified gazette of the 43rd BCS examinations were excluded finally. Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) recommended them for appointment. Their names were included in the first gazette published on October 15, 2024. The first gazette of the 43rd BCS dropped 99 recommended candidates and the second gazette dropped another 168 candidates.
After getting the news of exclusion in the gazette, the dropped candidates came to the public administration ministry to know the reason behind the decision. It is commendable that the government has decided to re-evaluate the candidacy of the 267 candidates. We hope all of them will get justice through the process.
The main question is, do successful candidates deserve to be excluded from the final gazette? Isn't it a discriminatory decision?
A few weeks ago, the chief of the public administration reformation commission Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury informed that they would recommend the abolition of police verification for recruitment to government jobs. But, verification is essential to finding appropriate persons who will serve the nation. Despite this, the candidates have the right to know the reason behind the exclusion of their names from the final gazette.
