Torn and worn-out currency notes

March 09, 2018 00:00:00

IT is really sad that as we present torn and worn-out currency notes, especially 100 taka notes, at banks' counters, most banks refuse to accept the same. As a result, we as common people are faced with extreme difficulties and do not know what to do with them.

I personally feel that the Bangladesh Bank should regularly take back these notes so that the common people are not in trouble. We find shopkeepers and customers squabbling over dirty and worn-out notes.

Although there is a standing instruction from the BB to all commercial banks to change such currency notes, in most cases banks put up various excuses and try to avoid taking responsibility of these worn out notes.

Moreover, when people withdraw large amounts of money from banks it is not possible for them to check each and every note and they go through similar problems and undergo similar harassment when they go to change such notes.

If the central bank takes appropriate action in this regard I think the problem can easily be solved and the common people will be spared unnecessary

hassles.
