'Tourism versus terrorism'

March 05, 2019 00:00:00

This is in reference to a letter titled 'Tourism versus terrorism' by Vinod C. Dixit from Ahmedabad, India which was published in the Financial Express on March 01. No doubt, Jammu and Kashmir is called the heaven of earth and tourism is the main business of the state. The sector provides employment and business to thousands of people in Jammu and Kashmir.

Since the very beginning of the Jammu and Kashmir problem in 1947, the Indian government has been dominating Kashmir in an adamant and wrongful manner. It seems to us-by those living outside India-that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are treated as 'third-class citizens'. Their opinions are not considered at all. This pushes them to protest. It is said that this is why they are fighting for the freedom of their land from the Indian government. Many innocent children and people have been killed by the Indian forces who term them as 'terrorists'.

Everyone wants peace. This can be achieved in Kashmir by properly addressing the problems being faced by the oppressed people of Jammu and Kashmir.
