Tourisms and its sustainable growth

August 30, 2025 00:00:00

Tourism is no longer just about leisure. It is a powerful engine that connects economies, cultures, and communities, driving sustainable development. The theme of the World Tourism Day 2025, "Tourism and Sustainable Transformation", emphasises the need for skilled human resources to turn Bangladesh's vast tourism potential into a reality. Blessed with coastlines, hill tracts, forests and historic landmarks, the country can become a global destination if trained professionals effectively manage the sector.

Currently, five government polytechnic institutes are equipping students with practical skills in hospitality management, tourism marketing, food safety, customer service and sustainable tourism practices. Plans are underway to expand this programme to five more institutes. This initiative promises not only to strengthen the tourism industry but also to generate employment, boost the national economy and align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals by promoting poverty reduction, women's empowerment and environmental conservation.

The challenge ahead is clear. Bangladesh must nurture skilled human resources quickly, and the government, educators, and industry leaders must collaborate to elevate the tourism and hospitality sectors to international standards. The future of the nation's tourism sector and its sustainable growth depends on this collective effort.
