Unfit BRTC buses worry CoU students

When the announcement was made that transport owners have six months to remove unfit vehicles from the road, Comilla University students were left wondering what would happen to university buses most of which are rented from the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC). The majority of these BRTC buses operating on our route are severely unfit, causing widespread inconvenience and even endangering students' safety.

These buses are consistently overcrowded, noisy, and prone to breaking down mid-journey, leaving students stranded on the road and often forcing them to physically push the vehicle to restart it. Such distressing incidents are often responsible for students to miss classes, important exams, and other academic obligations, jeopardising their educational progress. It is both disheartening and unfair that students must endure this situation when reliable transportation should be a basic right, not a privilege.

We earnestly urge the BRTC and the authorities concerned to address this issue with utmost urgency. These vehicles must either be replaced with safer, more reliable options or repaired comprehensively to prevent further breakdowns and ensure students' well-being. Students deserve a secure, timely, and dependable transportation service - one that supports, rather than hinders, their pursuit of education.
