University ranking in Bangladesh

University Grants Commission (UGC) is an autonomous government body that monitors and evaluates universities in the country. Every year, the UGC submits an annual report to the honourable President about the performance of the universities. In the developed world, the ranking of universities are published annually to evaluate their performances in several areas including teacher student ratio, budget per student, infrastructure facility, library facility etc. Some other organisations have also made such lists on the world's most reputed universities. The top universities attract the best students, researchers and academicians globally. A similar ranking of the universities in Bangladesh can create a competitive environment thus encouraging the performances of these institutions. Possibly a central university admission test can be arranged among the universities and the students can be allowed to choose the best university. Undoubtedly it will reduce the suffering of students during admission test. Maybe the concerned departments of the government can give this matter some thought.
