We expect responsible comment from ministry

THE recent comments by the Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury about the demonstrators demanding revision of the existing quota system is indeed unfortunate. She termed the demonstrators as children of collaborators. She did not hide her anger as she spoke in the Parliament session on last Monday. We do not expect such comments from a minister who is supposed to be more responsible in her remarks as the demonstrators were carrying banners, placards and festoons which were designed with portraits of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

As a member of the present student community I was really saddened by such atrocious comments from a person none other than a cabinet minister. We are those who nurture the spirit of liberation war in our hearts. Most of the leaders who are on the front line of the movement are BCL leaders and supporters of the Awami League. So, it is impossible to add any anti-liberation colour to the movement. We hope that responsible people will refrain from making such comments in future.
