Women finally free to drive in KSA

June 26, 2018 00:00:00

The early hours of Saturday, June 24, was surely a historic day in Saudi Arabia as many women with driving licences got into the driving seat of their cars to celebrate their freedom to drive. As reported by several international media, some took their family members out for a spin. Others had bought cars personally for this occasion. The women were encouraged by their family members and loved ones. People across the world chimed in their encouragement for these women through social media platforms like Facebook, twitter and others. Earlier, Saudi women could not drive a car and had to depend on male drivers, mostly from their family or under their employment. The country's media is hopeful that the withdrawal of the ban on female drivers will be the beginning of many steps towards women empowerment in the country.
