World Kidney Day

World Kidney Day | March 22, 2019 00:00:00

Every year, the world observes the World Kidney Day on the second Thursday of March. The purpose behind observing the day is to create awareness among common people about the importance of keeping the kidneys safe and healthy. This year the day was observed on March 14.

The number of kidney patients is increasing at an alarming rate in our country. It has been noted by health experts that if we can create awareness about kidney disease, we can prevent 60 per cent of kidney problems. This can bring about a drastic change in the present state of affairs. Prevention is always better than cure and we must remember it so that we can be safe from health-related complications.

One of my relatives is suffering from kidney problem and surviving through haemodialysis. It is very hard and difficult for kidney patients and their families as they face emotional, financial and physical stress.

Every one of us should regularly check our kidneys and get health checkups done so that we can take preventive steps. It would be wise to drink eight-to-ten glasses of water every day. We need to have a balanced diet and avoid greasy, oily foods.

It is high time we became conscious about the well-being of our kidneys and remained safe.
