Yaba: A deadly addiction

October 17, 2012 00:00:00

Recently the law enforcers have arrested six people and seized 12,600 pieces of Yaba tablets from their possession in the capital. Yaba Seems to have flooded the market here as it is easy to carry and consume. It does not only leave a sweet taste in the mouth of the addicted but also has devastating health consequences. This banned tablet has been gaining popularity in our country and is being smuggled from neighboring country Myanmar. It is very difficult for the law enforcers to stop its smuggling due to its small size.
Yaba addiction has become a fashion for high class people of Dhaka City. The central nervous system of our brain is being affected by instant feelings of light-headedness, dizziness followed by euphoria, increased physical activity, heightened alertness and increased wakefulness. After several hours, the addicted person experiences decreased appetite, increased respiration and sudden fall in body temperature.
Post-inhaling effects of Yaba addiction include irritability, insomnia, confusion, tremors, convulsions, anxiety, paranoia and aggressiveness. Our collective effort to create awareness among common people about the bad effects of Yaba will be helpful in this regard.
