Years gone, crisis remains

August 26, 2020 00:00:00

The Rohingya crisis has entered a frustrating stage since the outbreak of the global coronavirus. With passage of time, the cause of the Rohingya people was already becoming a forgotten issue and the pandemic diverted attention of the international community to health and financial crises facing nations and companies. However, thankfully, there was some focus of the plights of the Rohingya in the media, including global newspapers and portals.

This crisis has been a double-edged sword for Bangladesh -the country has embraced foreign policy challenges by giving shelter to the persecuted Rohingya people and the refugee crisis in Cox's Bazar has posed threats in a number of ways. Unfortunately, the Asian countries except statement from a few, had not played a strong role in persuading Myanmar to resolve this crisis and take back its people from Bangladesh. The world needs to be more empathetic to both Bangladesh and Rohingya for solving this crisis.
