2,198 new cases, 36 fatalities in pandemic

The Covid-19 infection rate hit a fresh high of 15.30 per cent in Bangladesh with 2,198 more people infected during the past 24-hour reporting time on Monday.

The death tally increased further to 36 on the day from Sunday's 31, according to a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the fatalities, 24 male and 12 female cases died of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, it said.

With the latest figure, the total fatalities from coronavirus reached 6,874 on the day since the virus was detected in Bangladesh last March.

According to the DGHS, 14,369 samples were tested, including antigen-based rapid tests, while 14,893 samples were collected countrywide during the period.

A total of 2,663 people recovered from Covid-19 during the reporting time, said the DGHS release.

The rate of recovery from the disease was recorded at 83.09 per cent in Bangladesh on the day, it mentioned. However, the official rate of fatalities from the disease remained static at 1.43 per cent on Monday.

A total of 4,79,743 people have so far been infected with coronavirus and 3,98,623 of them recovered from the deadly disease.

The DGHS figures showed a total of 2.87-million people tested so far for Covid in Bangladesh since last March.
