BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has said his party's 31-point programme is the blueprint for a democratic and inclusive Bangladesh.
During his virtual speech from London at the BNP's extended meeting on Thursday, he called for national unity and political empowerment to counter autocratic conspiracies.
He urged the interim government to prioritise free and fair elections over divisive local polls.
In his significant address, Rahman outlined the party's vision for a democratic and inclusive Bangladesh, centred on its 31-point programme.
He focused on the 31-point programme, announced following consultations with pro-democracy forces, saying it is a comprehensive charter aimed at addressing the nation's socio-political and economic challenges.
The BNP leader described it as a roadmap for establishing a discrimination-free, democratic, and humane Bangladesh.
"The 31-point programme focuses on political empowerment, economic reforms, social justice, and the restoration of fundamental rights, including the right to vote," he said.
He stressed that the programme is not static but adaptable to the evolving needs of the nation.
Rahman pointed out that many of its proposals align with the reform agendas of the current interim government, signalling a willingness to collaborate for the greater good.
However, he expressed concern over the government's lack of a clear roadmap and its prioritisation of local elections, which, he argued, could undermine the prospects of a free and fair national election.
Rahman also addressed the challenges posed by autocratic forces, accusing them of conspiring to disrupt national unity and the democratic process.
He urged the people to remain vigilant against such attempts and called for a united front to safeguard the country's independence and sovereignty.
The BNP leader reiterated the party's commitment to holding the perpetrators of genocide, corruption, and human rights violations accountable, emphasising that justice and accountability are central to the 31-point programme.
He paid tribute to the sacrifices of BNP leaders, activists, and supporters, who have endured immense suffering under authoritarian rule. He praised their unwavering commitment to the party's ideals and called for greater discipline and unity within the ranks.
The acting BNP chairman also showed his due respect and expressed gratitude to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War and the 2024 revolution to protect independence.
In his concluding remarks, Rahman appealed to the interim government to prioritise the restoration of democratic institutions and ensure a neutral environment for the upcoming national election.
He also urged the people to support BNP's vision for a government that is accountable, transparent, and responsive to their needs.
