Abul Kasem DCCI president again

Abul Kasem Khan

The 56th annual general meeting (AGM) of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) was held on Saturday reelecting Abul Kasem Khan as its president for the year of 2018.

It also picked Kamrul Islam, FCA, and Riyadh Hossain as senior vice-president and vice-president of the trade body respectively.

Abul Kasem Khan was born in a respectable Muslim family of Chittagong in 1968.

He completed his higher education in Business Administration (BBA) in 1992.

He briefly worked in the  banking sector from 1992 to 1996 and later joined his family business in 1996.

He is currently a director of AK Khan and Company Ltd (AKK), one of the oldest private sector business conglomerates in Bangladesh established in 1945.

Mr Khan who is also the managing director of AK Khan Telecom Ltd is the eldest son of AM Zahiruddin Khan, who was the president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (1974-76), president of FBCCI (1977) and former planning and industries minister of Bangladesh government.

Kamrul Islam, FCA, is the chairman of Mashnoons Limited and partner of Islam Aftab Kamrul and Co. Chartered Accountants.

He was born in 1959 in a respectable Muslim family. He did his Masters in accounting from the University of Dhaka.

He is the fellow member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) and Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB).

He is presently director of Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and president of the Accounting Alumni, University of Dhaka.

He is director of Sonali Bank Ltd. He was also director of DCCI and Janata Bank Ltd and member of the governing council of Housing and Building Research Institute.

He is the permanent member of Uttara Club Ltd and life member of Transparency International's Bangladesh chapter.

Riyadh Hossain was born in Armanitola, Baghbari in the old part of the capital.

He completed his higher education in Business Administration from North South University.

He joined his family business 'Cock Brand Mosquito Coil' after his graduation and was also involved in various trading businesses.

Mr Hossain is the son of Nazir Hossain who was a former director of DCCI, member of FBCCI and the chairman of N.H International and also grandson of late Hafez Monir Hossain, founder member of DCCI.

The newly-elected directors of DCCI are: Andaleeb Hasan, Engineer Md. Al Amin, Mohammad Bashiruddin, Nuher L. Khan, S M Zillur Rahman and Waqar Ahmad Choudhury.
