Battery-run rickshaw and van workers block the road in Badda, demanding permission for the movement of nearly 24,100 battery-run three-wheeler rickshaws and vans in the Dhaka North and South City Corporation areas. The blockade caused long traffic jams, creating hardships for commuters and disrupting vehicle movement. — FE Photo Battery-operated rickshaw drivers lifted their road blockade, enforced in the capital's Badda area on Monday, after issuing an ultimatum to the interim government. As a result, traffic resumed on the Kuril-Badda-Rampura route at about 12:20 pm.
Earlier, they enforced the road blockade demanding smooth operation of nearly 2,41,000 battery-operated rickshaws with thin tires as well as suspension of sales of three types of thick-tired auto-rickshaws by Akij Company.
The drivers warned that if their demands are not met by January 30, they would resume their agitation from February 1.
They also claimed to have received the assurance that the police administration would not create any obstacles in continuing the operation of thin-tired battery-operated auto-rickshaws.
