Md Mostaqur Rahman displays Bangla QR code at a footpath shop at Motijheel on Wednesday Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman on Wednesday visited many shops, including those on footpaths, in the Motijheel area as part of promoting the Bangla QR code, which has been made mandatory from Wednesday.
He visited shops in the peripheral areas of Bangladesh Bank HQ on the day, where the Governor himself made some transactions.
He was accompanied by high -ranking officials from the central bank. From July 01, the Bangla QR code has been made mandatory to convert cash-based transactions into cashless transactions.
The Bangladesh Bank-sponsored QR code is interoperable. The central bank has also planned to ensure the Bangla QR code use across all 1,200 bank branches throughout the country within the next three months.
The central bank believes that this new initiative will make sure at least 1.2 million Bangla QR code users are onboarded.
