BBF recognises 17 innovations

Bangladesh Brand Forum distributed Bangladesh Innovation Award-2019 on Saturday, recognising 17 groundbreaking innovations and unique ideas developed by both startups and established companies.

The award was given on the sidelines of Bangladesh Business Innovation Summit 2019, an initiative of Bangladesh Innovation Conclave (BIC), organised by Bangladesh Brand Forum (BBF) at Hotel Le Méridien in the city.

The main categories of the award were designed for sectoral innovations which took place in the financial sector, healthcare, start-up, agriculture sector, SDG inclusion, process, product development,social, public service and technology.

The award programme was aimed to build the Bangladesh's economy by acknowledging the creative mind and fuelling innovation within it.

The award recipients are: CMED Digital Health Services in the category of best healthcare for health inclusion in the rural areas of Bangladesh, Gaze Technology Ltd in the category of best star-up for intelligent video analytics platform for CCTVs using AI, mPower Social Enterprises Limited in the category of agriculture sector, Romoni in the category of best social innovation, Bank Asia Ltd in the financial sector for business model innovation to support financial inclusion, Hishab Ltd in best process innovation for Voice Based Data Input System to any software from any phone, Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) in best innovative product development for developing jute-based completely biodegradable packaging material Sonali Bag, Hishab Ltd in best technology innovation, a2i in public services innovation for Ek-Shop, and Lal Teer Seed Limited for SDG inclusion for Sustainable solution for food and nutrition security and livelihood improvement in Bangladesh through innovation of pest, disease and adverse climate-resilient vegetable crops.

The key focus of Bangladesh Business Innovation Summit was to drive innovations within different sectors & harness the skill set to drive innovation, adding value to the lives of people and helping them pursue inclusive growth.

This year the summit hosted three keynote sessions, three panel discussions, four insight sessions, a case study and a start-up story throughout the day.

Topics for the three panel discussions were how to transform a company's innovation culture, driving process innovation in an organisation, and exploring a collaborative model to build Bangladesh innovation eco-system.

At the opening ceremony, BIC Founder Shariful Islam said, "For Bangladesh, innovation is the only way to achieve our country's vision and pursue inclusive growth. Every institution needs to embrace innovation at its core to survive and thrive in the age of 4th industrial Revolution."

The discussants representing diverse sectors participated in different sessions of the summit include Director of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Prof Dr Syed Ferhat Anwar, President of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) Nihad Kabir, Managing Director of Rahimafrooz Renewable Energy Ltd Munawar Misbah Moin, Managing Director & CEO of Dhaka Bank Limited Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Policy Advisor of a2i Anir Chowdhury and Managing Director of ACI Limited Arif Ud Dowla.
