With 2,372 more patients getting recovered in the last 24 hours until Sunday noon, the total recovery from Covid-19 infection crossed 240,000-mark, official figure showed.

As of September 13, the tally of recovered persons has reached 240,643 and the recovery rate at 71.30 per cent. If the trend continues, Bangladesh might touch the global recovery average of around 80 per cent very soon.

However, a downward trend in the number of Covid-19 tests and infections continued, with only 12,999 samples tested in the last 24 hours, and 11.35 per cent of the samples tested positive.

Already, the densely-populated nation of around 165 million population ranked second in South Asia in terms of poor testing coverage.

With 1,476 new cases recorded across the country in the last 24 hours, the figure of confirmed cases rose to 337,520, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Bangladesh ranked third in Asia in terms of infections and 15th in the globe.

The DGHS daily health bulletin, issued on Sunday, said a total of 12,999 samples were tested across the country since last morning.

With the tests, a total of 17,28,480 samples have so far been tested here, and the infection rate is as high as 19.53 per cent, which is the second highest in South Asia.

Of the tests, some 1,476 samples were found Covid-19 positive along with 31 more deaths recorded during the period, it noted.

"With these numbers, the overall tally of confirmed cases and deaths rose to 337,520 and 4,733 respectively," mentioned the bulletin, signed by DGHS additional director general Dr Nasima Sultana.

Eighteen of the latest deaths were recorded in Dhaka division, followed by five in Chattogram, two in Sylhet, two in Rajshahi, two in Rangpur, and one each in Khulna and Mymensingh, the bulletin added.

Globally, more than 28.9 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus, and 925,272 have died until Sunday 6:30 pm, according to Worldometer.
