Twenty people died of Covid-19 in Bangladesh in last 24 hours until Saturday noon, the lowest single-day fatalities in last 127 days, officials said.
Official figures showed that 15 deaths were registered on May 28 last, 20 days after the presence of deadly coronavirus officially reported in the country.
With the latest figure, the death toll due to the Covid-19 now stands at 5,325 and at a rate of 1.45 per cent of the total infections until Saturday noon.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) data showed that some 1,182 new cases were registered across Bangladesh following dedicated medical screening of 9,554 samples in the last 24 hours that ended on Saturday noon.
The health bulletin issued by the DGHS said the latest infection number increased the entire caseload in Bangladesh to 367,565 and the rate of attack among the tested samples dropped further to 18.57 per cent.
Of the overall fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours, 17 were male and all of the ill-fated people succumbed to their infections while undergoing treatment at different hospitals, it said.
Highest 12 deaths were reported in Dhaka division that accounts for over 50 per cent infections and deaths because of the pandemic, according to the bulletin.
Some 1,442 more patients recovered from the highly catching respiratory disease and the numbers took the recovery tally to 280,069. The recovery rate increased to 76.20 per cent.
Globally, more than 34.8 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 1,033,783 died until Saturday 5:15 pm, according to Worldometer info on coronavirus.
In South-East Asia, the infections and deaths were more than 7.16 million and 116,837 respectively.
