Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has significantly reduced the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and autogas for consumers for the month of July.
According to the new decision, the price of privately supplied 12kg LPG cylinders has been cut by Tk 357, or 18.93 per cent to Tk 1,528 from the previous rate of Tk 1,885.
The price of autogas has been reduced by Tk 16.53 per liter, bringing it down to Tk 70.40 from Tk 86.93 previously.
The new prices were announced on Thursday at a press conference with the BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmad in the chair, which came into effect from 6:0 pm on Thursday.
The BERC stated that the prices were adjusted in line with international market prices, based on Saudi Aramco's contract price (CP) for July.
In July, the CP for propane was set at US$ 580 per tonne (mt) and butane at US$ 600 per tonne.
With a 35:65 ratio, the average CP stood at US$ 593 per tonne.
Factoring in shipping costs and trader premiums of US$ 180 per tonne, along with an average exchange rate of Tk 123.08 per US dollar, the new prices were determined, it stated.
Under the revised rates, the maximum retail price of bottled LPG has been set at Tk 127.30 per kilogram (kg).
Accordingly, the price of a 12.5kg cylinder is Tk 1,591, a 15kg cylinder Tk 1,910, a 16kg cylinder Tk 2,037, an 18kg cylinder Tk 2,291, a 20kg cylinder Tk 2,546, a 22kg cylinder Tk 2,801, a 25kg cylinder Tk 3,183, a 30kg cylinder Tk 3,819, a 33kg cylinder Tk 4,201, a 35kg cylinder Tk 4,456, and a 45kg cylinder Tk 5,729.
For private LPG supplied in liquid form through reticulated systems, the price has been fixed at Tk 123.55 per kg. However, the price of government-supplied LPG remains unchanged at Tk 776.93 per 12.5 kg.
