The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has instructed banks concerned to submit account details of cricketer Shakib Al Hasan and his wife Umme Roman Ahmed.
The directive was issued through letters sent to banks and non-bank financial institutions, requesting full information on the couple's accounts, including savings, current, fixed deposit receipt (FDR) and other schemes.
A BFIU official told the FE that these institutions were given a five-day deadline to comply with the request.
Furthermore, the anti-money laundering agency is seeking details about any businesses or companies associated with the couple.
This move is part of the BFIU's ongoing efforts to ensure financial transparency and compliance with regulations.
The BFIU directive further instructed banks and financial institutions to submit relevant documents or information pertaining to the individuals whose account details have been requested.
This includes account opening forms, KYC (know your customer) documents and transaction statements.
The institutions have been given a deadline of five business days from the date of receiving the letter to send this information to the BFIU.
The BFIU's letter states that relevant sections of the anti-money laundering regulations will apply in this directive to collect transaction details.
The letter also includes the names of the individuals along with their national ID and passport information.
