BNP activists in Dhaka have snatched two of their fellows from law-enforcers soon after they were detained, said police.

The incident was reported on Tuesday, when BNP chief Khaleda Zia attended a graft case hearing at a special judge's court at Bakhsibazar in the city, reports bdnews24.com.

BNP activists descended on the road from the capital's High Court to Bakhsibazar and ended up clashing with police.

On Tuesday, police detained some BNP activists and hurled them into their vehicle. Two of the detainees were snatched from police custody.

"They attacked the prison van near the High Court and snatched two detainees in the presence of Khaleda Zia as she was returning from the court hearing," Deputy Police Commissioner Maruf Hossain Sardar told the news agency.

He, however, could not provide identities of the two BNP activists.

The senior police officer claimed that the attackers smashed the windshield of the prison van and left several police officers, including an assistant deputy commissioner, injured.

At least 20 BNP activists were detained over the incident, said Inspector Jafar Ali of Shahbagh police. They would start a case against them, he added.
