The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has categorically rejected the National Consensus Commission's proposal to hold a referendum on constitutional reforms before the national election, calling it undemocratic, impractical, and coercive.
Speaking at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's Office in the city on Thursday, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said BNP would never accept a referendum on any day other than the national election day.
He was joined at the briefing by BNP standing committee members Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Nazrul Islam Khan, Selima Rahman, Salauddin Ahmed and others.
An emergency meeting of the BNP Standing Committee was held on Wednesday night.
