Profit taking halts four-week rally
Stocks slipped into the red in the outgoing week to Thursday, snapping a four-week gaining streak, as jittery investors rushed to lock in profits from large-cap issues that witnessed price surge. 345m marching toward starvation: UN
The U.N. food chief warned Thursday that the world is facing "a global emergency of unprecedented magnitude," with up to 345 million people marching toward starvation - and 70 million pushed closer to starvation by the war in Ukraine. David Beasley, executive director of the U.N. World Food Program, told the U.N. Security Council that the 345 million people facing acute food insecurity in the 82 countries where the agency operates is 2½ times the number of acutely food insecure people before the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020. 93pc work on Bangabandhu tunnel ends
Almost 93 per cent of the construction work of 'Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel' under Karnaphuli river in Chattogram has been completed. Already the government appointed a Chinese company as its operator. The tunnel, built at a cost of Tk 103.84 billion, will be the first under-river tunnel in the country which will directly connect Chittagong port with South Chattogram and Cox's Bazar. Page 16
