Stocks slip into red
Stocks slipped into the red in the outgoing week, snapping a nine-week winning streak, as cautious investors booked some profit on quick-gaining stocks amid rising trend of Covid-19 cases. Week-on-week, DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 13.89 points or 0.23 per cent to settle at 6,052, after gaining 812 points in the past nine consecutive weeks. Page 9
Neymar 10 goals away from Pele
Neymar might not win three World Cups in his career like Pele did, but he is closing in as the top goal scorer ever for Brazil's national team. He reduced the gap to nine after his Brazil's 4-0 win over Peru in the Copa America. Official statistics from FIFA, soccer's international governing body, put Pele in No. 1 spot for Brazil with 77 goals. Page 14
Mamata challenges her rival
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has moved a higher court in state capital Kolkata against the win of her former protege-turned-rival Suvendu Adhikari from Nandigram in last month's assembly polls. The High Court in Kolkata is slated to hear Mamata's petition on Friday morning, her lawyer has said. Page 15
Gold regains some ground
Gold prices rose 1.0 per cent on Friday as a pause in the dollar's rally helped bullion claw back some ground from a sharp slide in the previous sessions driven by the US Federal Reserve bank's hawkish tilt, which put it on course for its worst week in nearly nine months. Page 16
