Activities involving the imported-goods clearance from cargo village of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) have resumed after a devastating fire broke out on Saturday.
An official of Dhaka Customs, preferring anonymity, told the FE that they had started delivering goods that arrived at HSIA on Sunday.
"Courier services and goods having minimal weight were being delivered through gate number nine," said the official.
Visiting the area, the FE correspondent found that officials of different clearing and forwarding (C&F) agents thronged the cargo village on Monday.
Three cargo flights landed until 4.00pm on Monday at the country's prime aviation facility. The export warehouse was being used for storing the imported goods as the import cargo village had been completely burnt down in the fire and the area remained restricted for rescue and investigation purpose.
Pias Ahmed, an official of C& F agent 'Best Shirts Ltd' said that they were yet to know the fate of their shipments that were stored at cargo village during fire.
He said that they were waiting to know from the Dhaka Customs about their shipments.
Helalur Rahman, an official of Subarno Enterprise, a C&F agent, said shipments of fabrics and label items imported from China were stored at the cargo village during the day of fire. "We are still unaware about the fate of their shipments," he said.
The C&F agent officials called upon the department concerned to let them know about the condition of their shipments.
A move was underway to make list of the products that made narrow escape from the blaze.
Meanwhile, the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) on Monday formed a five-member committee to investigate the devastating fire incident which is feared to have caused a substantial financial damage.
FSCD Director (O&M) Lieutenant General Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury was made head of the committee while FSCD deputy director of Dhaka Division Md Saleh Uddin was made the member secretary.
The other committee members were deputy assistant director of FSCD Md Abdul Mannan, senior station member of FSCD Kurmitola Nahid Mamun and warehouse inspector Md Tozammel Hossain.
The committee members were directed to immediately visit the spot and initiate the investigation process, complete it within the next 15 working days and submit an investigation report to the department as per the policy.
