CMCCI welcomes new budget

CHATTOGRAM, June 12: The Chattogram Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CMCCI) welcomed the budget placed in parliament on Thursday for the next fiscal year.

The CMCCI termed the budget as pro-development and pro-people.

President of CMCCCI Khalilur Rahman expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister for placing the pro-development budget.

He said," I would like to thank the Honourable Prime Minister of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Tarique Rahman, and the Honourable Minister of Finance, Mr. Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, for presenting the 55th challenging national budget of Tk 9,38,000 crore proposed for the fiscal year 2026-2027."

He said, "I believe that good governance and prevention of corruption are essential for the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to properly achieve the target of 6.95 lakh crore taka in revenue collection. On the other hand, revenue collection will be ensured only if employment is increased through industrialization protection and expansion."

He also said, "In order to ensure that the country's banks operate smoothly as per the instructions of Bangladesh Bank, it is necessary to return the banks to their respective owners. As a result, we expect that inflation will decrease along with GDP growth in the country. However, the increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) on several goods and services in the new budget may create new pressure on inflation, which should be considered seriously."
