Constitution Reform Commission head Professor Ali Riaz on Sunday said that they would request the political parties to submit written and concrete proposals for constitutional reforms.
He further said that the commission would also seek insights from a broad range of stakeholders, including legal experts, civil society leaders, youth activists, and cultural representatives.
Riaz said this at a press conference held at the LD Hall of National Parliament building (Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban) in the capital.
The head of the Constitution Reform Commission further said that individuals, organisations, institutions, or parties actively involved in the killings during the July-August student uprising would not be included in the constitutional reform process.
The commission is tasked with reviewing, amending, and potentially rewriting the current constitution to better reflect public aspirations.
"The commission will consider equality, human dignity, social justice, and the foundational goals of the Liberation War, aiming to establish a non-discriminatory democratic state," Prof Riaz said, outlining primary objectives for reforms.
These include establishing a participatory democracy, ensuring meaningful political involvement, preventing the emergence of authoritarian regimes, balancing the powers of government branches, decentralising the authority, and safeguarding the independence of key institutions.
To encourage public involvement, he said that a dedicated website would go live on Tuesday, allowing citizens to submit their suggestions.
