Infection rate remains static at 11.13pc

The coronavirus infection rate remained static at 11.13 per cent in the country on Tuesday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The infection rate remained the same on Monday although the number of confirmed cases recorded in the last 24 hours increased slightly only because of a rise in the number of tests.

DGHS sources said 11.13 per cent or 1,537 people tested positive for Covid-19 across the country in the last 24 hours that ended on Tuesday noon.

The latest single-day confirmed viral attacks came from a total of 13,815 samples tested during the period. On Monday, the number of new cases and tests were 1,488 and 13,227 respectively.

With the latest statistics, the entire caseload crossed over 0.38 million which took Bangladesh to 16th position in the global ranking of worst-affected nations as of October 13, 2020.

In terms of fatalities, 22 more patients succumbed to coronavirus disease. Now the death toll here reached 5,577.

Although the number of infections kept falling in the last couple of months, the rate is still above danger level, according to healthcare professionals.

According to the health bulletin issued by DGHS on Tuesday, a total of 13,815 samples were tested across the country since last morning.

With the tests, a total of 2,098,037 samples have so far been tested here and the overall infection rate was as high as 18.17 per cent and it is the second highest in South Asia after India.

Of the tests, some 1,537 samples were found Covid-19 positive along with 22 more deaths recorded during the period, it said.

"With these numbers, the overall tally of confirmed cases and deaths rose to 381,275 and 5,577 respectively," the bulletin signed by DGHS additional director general Dr Nasima Sultana said.

Fifteen of the latest deaths were recorded in Dhaka division, followed by five in Chattogram division and two in Rangpur division.

At the same time, the DGHS data also mentioned that 1,482 patients recovered, taking the entire tally of recoveries to 295,873. The recovery rate rose to 77.60 per cent.

Globally, more than 38.1 million people have been infected with the novel coronavirus and 1,086,467 died until 6:35 pm on Tuesday, according to Worldometer info on coronavirus.
