Covid claims 14 more lives, 1,531 test positive

Covid-19 claimed 14 more lives while 1,531 people tested positive for the deadly pathogen in the country in the last 24 hours ending Saturday morning.

So far, a total of 6,173 people died of the viral disease and the total caseloads stood at 4,30,496, according to a statement of the

Director General of Health Services (DGHS).

Some 11,795 samples were tested during the 24-hour period, taking the total figure of tests to 25,27,134. The detection rates were registered at 12.98 and 17.03 per cent for the 24-hour period and the whole period respectively.

The DGHS data revealed that the fatality rate is 1.43 per cent.

Of the new 14 deaths, 10 were males and four females. All but one died in hospitals.

A significant number of them or nine people were over 60 years and remaining five were between 41-60 years and most of them died in Dhaka division.

The DGHS data revealed that more than half of total fatalities or 3,234 were reported in Dhaka division.

Currently, 115 laboratories are conducting the tests for coronavirus.

Some 39,315 people are staying in quarantine and 12,176 have been put into isolation to help check the spread of virus in the country.

Bangladesh is currently the fifth worst-hit nation in Asia and the 24th in the world in terms of new cases, according to worldometer tally.
