Covid claims five more lives

The daily death toll from Covid-19 rose further to five in Bangladesh on Friday from the previous day's single.

However, 221 new cases have been reported in the past 24 hours until 8:00 am on the day against Thursday's 237, says the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With the latest tallies, total deaths from coronavirus and total caseload count 27,912 and more than 1.57 million respectively since the detection of the virus here in March 2020.

A total of 17,231 samples, including antigen-based rapid ones, were tested while 17,282 collected across the country during the period in question.

However, the Covid test positivity rate inched up to 1.28 per cent on Friday from the previous day's 1.21 per cent, according to the DGHS data.

A total of 219 more people recovered from the coronavirus disease countrywide during the 24-hour reporting time, said a DGDH press release.

The rate of recovery from Covid-19 was reported at 97.71 per cent on the day.

However, the fatality rate from the deadly respiratory disease remained almost static at 1.78 per cent.

More than 10.56-million samples have so far been tested in the country since March 2020.
