Covid toll, infection rate fall in 24 hours

The daily Covid-19 caseload maintained a downward trend in the country for the last few days with the authorities reporting 27 deaths from the virus on Friday.

The daily death toll due to coronavirus was also considerably lower than that of the previous day's 41, according to the official data.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) recorded 5,268 new Covid-19 cases during the last 24 hours until 8:0am on Friday, down from the previous day's 7,264.

However, Covid-19 test positivity rate also inched down further to 15.46 per cent on the day compared to that of 16.95 per cent on Thursday, said a DGHS press release.

With the latest daily counts, total fatalities from coronavirus stood at 28,771 since the virus was first detected in the country in March last, the DGHS data showed.

According to the DGHS figures, a total of 34,067 samples were tested, including antigen-based rapid tests, while some 33,896 samples were collected across the country during the last 24-hour reporing time.

A total of 11,353 people recovered from the Covid-19 during the mentioned period, said a DGHS press release.

The rate of recovery from the disease also maintained an uptrend at 87.17 per cent on the day.

However, the rate of fatalities from coronavirus inched down to 1.51 per cent from the previous day's 1.52 per cent.

Nearly 1.9 million Covid-19 cases have been detected in Bangladesh and more than 1.655 million of them recovered from the deadly disease.

About 12.93 million samples have also been tested across the country since March 2020, the DGHS figures showed.
