Daily dengue caseload hits year’s high

The number of dengue-infected patients continued to rise fast in Bangladesh as the country recorded the highest number of single-day caseload this year until Saturday morning, official data showed.

In the last 24-hour ending 8:00am in Saturday, a total of 440 patients seeking treatment for the viral fever were hospitalised across the country which is the highest single day count in 2022, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

However, no report of death due to the mosquito-borne disease came from anywhere in the country during the one-day period.

The previous highest daily caseload was 438, recorded on September 20 last.

The DGHS data showed that hospitals and clinics in the capital hosted 325 new patients yesterday while 115 others were hospitalised elsewhere.

With the latest count, a total of 1,628 people, including 1,272 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at different hospitals and healthcare facilities in the country.

The official data said fatalities from the vector-borne disease in 2022 remained unchanged at 50. Of the total deaths, 23 were reported from Dhaka division, 23 from Chattogram and four from Barisal division.

A total of 13,440 dengue patients have been hospitalised so far this year and among them 11,762 recovered.
