Four men were killed in a fire that broke out at a multi-storey hotel in the capital's Shahjadpur area on Monday, said the fire service.

The victims' identities could not be known. Firefighters recovered the bodies after dousing the fire at Saudia Hotel.

Earlier, the fire broke out on the second floor of the six-storey building at 12:17pm.

On receiving information, two units of the Baridhara Fire Station reached the spot at 12:31pm and started work to put out the fire.

After the fire was brought under control at 1:04pm, a search was conducted in the building and four bodies were recovered from the sixth floor.

One of the bodies was found in a bathroom, and the three others at the foot of the stairs. The door to the stairs was found locked at that time, the fire service said.
