Five more Covid deaths, 257 cases recorded

The daily Covid-19 caseload has maintained downtrend in the country for the last few days with the authorities reporting five deaths from the virus on Friday.

The daily death toll due to coronavirus was also slightly higher than the previous day's three, according to the official data.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) recorded 257 new Covid-19 cases during the last 24 hours until 8:0am on Friday, down from the previous day's 327.

However, Covid-19 test positivity rate also inched down further to 1.86 per cent on the day form 1.91 per cent on the previous day, said a DGHS press release.

With the latest daily counts, total fatalities from coronavirus stood at 29,105 since the virus was first detected in the country in March 2020, the DGHS data showed.

According to the DGHS figures, a total of 13,801 samples were tested while some 13,860 samples were collected across the country during the last 24-hour reporing time.

A total of 2,399 people recovered from Covid-19 during the mentioned period, said a DGHS press release.

The rate of recovery from the disease also maintained an uptrend at 95.31 per cent on the day. However, the rate of fatalities from coronavirus remained static at 1.49 per cent.

Nearly 1.95 million Covid-19 cases have been detected in Bangladesh and more than 1.857 million of them recovered from the deadly disease.

About 13.61 million samples have also been tested across the country since March 2020, the DGHS figures showed.
