The government has agreed to set up separate administrative facilities for the seven colleges seeking a separate univerisity, press secretary to the chief adviser Shafiqul Alam said on Thursday.
Addressing a media briefing, he said that the decision was taken in the meeting between the representatives of the students from the colleges and a group of advisers led by education adviser Professor Wahid Uddin Mahmud.
He expressed his hope that the students of these colleges, who had been demonstrating on the city streets for several days, would put an end to their movement following the decision.
He also said that the government initiated a move so that 18,000 Bangladeshi workers who failed to go to Malaysia due to time constraints could fly there.
The verification process for the workers started and he expressed his hope that they could go to Malaysia very soon, he added.
He also said that law adviser Asif Nazrul was given the charge to discharge the financial and administrative responsibilities of Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) as the post is vacant now following dissolution of parliament.
Responding to a question, he said that the move to extradite former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, against whom arrest warrant was issued by the court, would start after the verdict.
The move for extradition can be started after the verdict, he pointed out.
Responding to another question he said that the government was working relentlessly to resolve the traffic congestions in the city.
Dr Yunus himself talked to several experts in this regard, he added.
The cabinet also approved the draft of 'Agreement between the Government of the Republic of the Gambia and the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on Exemption from Visa Requirement for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports' and the draft of 'Agreement on Maritime Transport Cooperation' of the Bimstec.
It also approved the draft of National Project Evaluation Policy 2024.
