India beat Tigers in seasaw match

Fans enjoy final on big screens

India lifted the Nidahas T20 tri-nation series trophy by beating the Tigers by four wickets in a nail-biting finish in Colombo on Sunday.

Requiring five off the last ball with a target set at 167, Indian batsman Dinesh Kartik just hit a six to seal the fate of the match to the frustration of Soumya Sarker who was otherwise doing well, when his captain put faith in him to bowl in the topsy-turvy final over.

Earlier, sent in to bat first, the Tigers scored 166 for 8 in 20 overs riding on a superb innings of 77 off 50 balls by Sabbir Rahman. Sabbir hammered seven boundaries and four over boundaries.

Mahmudullah Riyad (21 off 16b; 2x4) was the 2nd highest scorer for Bangladesh and shared a partnership of 36 off 4.1 overs with Sabbir Rahman in the 5th wicket before being run out at 104/5 in 14.2 overs.

Apart from television sets, cricket fans enjoyed Bangladesh-India T-20 final cricket match on big screens in different areas of Dhaka on Sunday.

The city wore a deserted look after the evening following people's rush to watch the game. Among other spots, they thronged Jonaki Cinema Hall at Naya Paltan to watch the high-voltage game. Viewers of different ages, including professionals returning to respective homes after attending their offices, thronged the hall for watching the game.

They purchased tickets at prices ranging from Tk 60 to Tk 70 each, depending on the classes of the movie hall.

"The hall has a capacity of around 1,000 seats. We sold all tickets of our capacity," a ticket seller of the hall told the FE.

Besides, the game was also enjoyed live on big screens at different places, including Shahbag, Motijheel, Shantinagar and Jatrabari etc.
