Eight Islamic parties including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Thursday announced a grand rally on November 11 in the capital, demanding implementation of the July National Charter and referendum before the national elections.

They said the nation is now united and called upon the government to give the July National Charter a legal basis.

They also warned that there will be no election in Bangladesh without reforms.

So, there must be a referendum first and before that (plebiscite/ referendum), the government must issue an order for implementation of the July National Charter.

They made the announcement and observations while marching toward the Chief Adviser's residence Jamuna for submitting a memorandum to realise their five point charter of demands at Matsya Bhaban premises in the city.

Following police resistance, the leaders and supporters of eight Islamist parties could not move to the Jamuna.

However, a nine-member delegation from the Islamic parties moved to the Jamuna and handed over their memorandum to Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman.

Adviser Adilur Rahman received the memorandum on behalf of the Chief Adviser (CA) at his official residence Jamuna on the day.

After submitting the memorandum, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar told the rally that top representatives from eight political parties had jointly submitted the memorandum to the chief adviser.

"We are sincerely ready to extend all possible cooperation to the government in resolving the ongoing political crisis," he told the media after submitting the memorandum.

Mr. Porwar urged the advisory council to take swift decisions regarding their five-point demand.

Issuing a warning, the senior Jamaat leader said if their demands are not met, "Dhaka will look very different on 11 November".

"Before the capital becomes resounded with the footsteps of millions at the grand rally on 11 November, we urge the interim government to accept our five-point demand and show respect to the people's aspiration expressed in July," he added.

About the government's call for political dialogue, he said, "We are ready to sit for talks.

Addressing the rally, Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher said: "We will not let our achievement from July go in vain. The referendum must be held before the national election."
