The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the prices of jet fuel used in aviation, marking a significant reversal after three consecutive increases.
The new rates were announced on Thursday and came into effect at midnight.
According to the revised pricing, the cost of jet fuel for domestic flights has been reduced by around Tk 22 per litre -- from Tk 227.08 to Tk 205.45.
For international flights, the price has been lowered from $1.4806 per litre (duty- and VAT-exempt) to $1.3385 per litre.
The latest adjustment follows a series of sharp increases earlier this year.
In January, jet fuel was priced at Tk 94.93 per litre.
It saw a marginal rise in February to Tk 95.12 per litre.
However, prices surged dramatically from late February amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, which disrupted global fuel supply.
In March, the price jumped in phases - first to Tk 112.41, and then sharply to Tk 202.29 within just two weeks.
The upward trend continued into April, when the price reached Tk 227.08 per litre, prompting concerns among airlines over rising operational costs.
The latest reduction is expected to provide some relief to carriers, particularly on domestic routes, although the broader impact will depend on global fuel price movements and geopolitical developments.
