A group of students and jobseekers again blocked Shahbagh intersection in the city on Saturday demanding raising the age limit for entry into government jobs to 35 from 30.

Under the banner of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Parishad, they started staging demonstrations from 12:30 pm, holding up traffic on the busy intersection for hours and causing immense sufferings to the people.

They continued with the demonstration till filing of this at 7:00 pm.

The protesters demanded that the age limit be increased to 35 before the 40th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exam starts.

They vowed to continue the agitation programme until their demand is met. They also threatened to go for a tougher movement if their demand is not fulfilled immediately.

However, general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League Golam Rabbani went to the spot in the afternoon and assured the protesters of holding talks with the higher authorities over the matter.

At present, the age limit for entering public service is 30 years while retirement age is 59 years.
