Jute mill workers blocked the Jatrabari intersection in the capital on Tuesday morning demanding payment of their dues and arrears, reports UNB.

The demonstrators took position on the Jatrabari intersection from 8.00am and blocked the intersection, disrupting traffic and creating tailbacks.

Police intervened and brought the situation under control around 10.00am, said Kazi Wazed, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station.

Meanwhile, a strike, being enforced by workers of nine jute mills in Khulna region, is underway demanding payment of dues.

Production at the jute mills has remained suspended.

The workers observed road blockade programme from 4.00pm to 7.00pm on Tuesday, said Md Murad Hossain, convener of Jute Mill Workers League of Khulna-Jashore region.
