Importers and exporters

Mandatory e-payment of customs duty, taxes from July next

FE REPORT | September 13, 2020 00:00:00

The revenue board is set to make electronic payment of customs duty and other taxes above Tk 0.2 million mandatory for importers and exporters.

All customs houses and stations would implement it from July next year.

However, from April next year, electronic payment of customs duty at any amount will be made mandatory for import and export carried out through the customs house of the Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Kamalapur

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) took the decision in a bid to phase out the manual customs duty payment system by December 2021.

It has decided to introduce mandatory e-payment of customs duty and other taxes irrespective of the amount of taxes from January 1, 2022.

The NBR has circulated the decision with a time-bound plan to make the customs duty payment system fully automated.
