The city's metro rail service faced disruptions again on Saturday afternoon due to a technical issue near Uttara, forcing authorities to operate trains partially between Motijheel and Pallabi for over five hours.
The metro service from Motijheel to Uttara was fully restored at 6:51pm after resolving the technical issue.
Sources said train operations were halted around 1:33pm following a problem with the signalling system near Uttara South station.
Unable to resolve the issue immediately, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited managed to resume partial operations from Motijheel to Pallabi starting at 2:05pm, utilising the five available train sets.
DMTCL Director Nasir Uddin Ahmed told the FE that metro rail service was fully restored at 6:51pm after resolving the technical issue.
The train operations had been suspended on the Uttara side to resolve the signalling problem, he added.
However, passengers said they suffered significant inconvenience due to the problem as trains were delayed for 12 minutes to 20 minutes, while it operated partially from Motijheel to Pallabi.
Since its launch in December 2022, the mass rapid transit line 6 (MRT 6) has been facing various technical problems during operations, which experts said is the result of operating such a technology for the first time in the country without adequate training and skilled manpower.
