The National Fitra Fixation Committee has set the minimum fitra at Tk 110 and the maximum at Tk 2,805 per person for this year.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee held at the conference room of the Islamic Foundation at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Wednesday, reports BSS.

The meeting was presided over by committee president and Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Maulana Mufti Abdul Maleque, according to an Islamic Foundation press release.

Fitra, a donation, is paid by well-off Muslims to poor prior to offering Eid-ul-Fitr prayers.

Last year, the minimum fitra was also fixed at Tk 110 and the maximum at Tk 2,805 per person.

According to Islamic law, fitra may be paid in food items such as flour, barley, raisins, dates and cheese.

Fitra rates have been fixed based on the current market prices of these items collected from all divisions.

Muslims can pay fitra according to their financial capacity, either with a specific item or in cash equivalent to the market value of the items.

Member of the Islamic Foundation Board of Governors Maulana Mahfujul Haque, director of the Department of Dye and Culture at the foundation Dr Mohammad Harunur Rashid and Mufti Maulana Mohammad Abdullah attended the meeting.
