Truck runs over traffic constable

A traffic constable was crushed to death under the wheels of a speeding truck at Gabtoli in the city's Mirpur area on Tuesday morning. The truck knocked down Constable Abdul Majid, 35, at Technical intersection at around 7:00am when he was on duty. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition where the doctors declared him dead at around 9:00am. Abdul Majid hailed from Noagaon. — FE Report

UN body to review BD status on Mar 15-16

The UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights is meeting in Geneva on March 12-29 to review the status of a number of countries, including Bangladesh. Other countries are Mexico (12-13 Mar), Niger (13-14 Mar), Central African Republic (19-20 Mar), Spain (21-22 Mar) and New Zealand (22-23 Mar). The committee will appraise Bangladesh on March 15-16, according to a despatch received from Geneva on Tuesday. The states are among the 166 that ratified the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
