Six die as two groups clash

Clashes among followers of local leaders of ruling Awami League and BNP killed six people, including three siblings, at Charigram village of Mithamoin Upazila under Kishoreganj on Thursday. The violence broke out in the afternoon and continued for two hours. It also left more than 50 people injured, said Mithamoin police OC Alamgir Hossain. Chairman of Dhaki Union Porishod (UP) Md Majibur Rahman said five people, including three brothers, died in the clash. The dead are Rajib, Mokbul Mia and brothers Fardis, Makhan, and Masum. According to report, Awami League leader Suleman Bhuiyan and BNP leader Pallab Bhuiyan had been enemies for long. They are also facing cases for their long-standing feud on land and fish farming. Pallab's followers attacked Suleman's relative Rajib in Nayahati area at about 12.00 noon, said the UP chairman. "Rajib died on the spot after he was pierced by a spear. Following his death, hundreds of villagers from both the sides engaged themselves in clashes with sharp weapons and sticks." Mokbul was a follower of Suleman, while the three brothers were followers of Pallab, he added. — bdnews24.com

Delhi reintroduces car rationing

The government in the Indian capital, Delhi, has reintroduced car rationing to curb alarming levels of pollution. Private cars with even and odd number plates will only be allowed on alternate days from 13 to 17 November. Car rationing was trialled last year.—BBC
