to confirm Rohingya
repatriation date
Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque has refused to confirm any specific date for the start of Rohingya repatriation from Cox's Bazar as reported by the international media. "It's a continuous process. Anytime it can happen," he said while replying to a question at an event in Dhaka on Sunday. Reuters earlier reported that Myanmar and Bangladesh agreed to make a fresh attempt at repatriation start on Aug 22. "We have agreed to the repatriation of 3,540 people on August 22," Myint Thu, a spokesman for Myanmar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Reuters by phone.

Jewellers raise
gold prices again
Local jewellers have revised the prices of gold upward again within two weeks, with effect from today (Monday). As per the latest revision, the prices of three categories of gold measuring 22, 21 and 18 carats have increased by Tk 100 per gram, according to a press release issued by the Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BJS) on Sunday night. The BJS changed the prices of gold last on August 08 several days ahead of Eid-ul-fitr. With the fresh price hike, 22-carat gold will now be sold at Tk 4,875 per gram, 21-carat gold at Tk 4,675 per gram and 18-carat gold at Tk 4,245 per gram. The price of traditional gold has also been increased by Tk 100 to Tk 2500 per gram.
