Govt orders halt of local ads on foreign TV channels

The government has issued a notification to stop immediately the airing of advertisements of locally produced goods on foreign television channels downlinked in Bangladesh. The notification issued recently by the Ministry of Information said as per the Bangladesh Cable Television Network Act-2006, no local advertisements can be aired on foreign channels. — BSS

Three die in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfights’

COX'S BAZAR, Nov 20: Two suspected drug traders and a listed pirate were killed in separate gunfights with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Teknaf upazila early Tuesday. Two suspected drug traders Jahangir Kudrat, 32, hailing from Mymensingh district and Md Arif Hossain, 30, were killed in the reported gunfight with RAB. Besides, Deedarul Islam, 32, resident of Uttar Amjakhali, was killed in a reported gunfight with RAB. — UNB
